The Assembly served as an important opportunity for discussion, allowing participants to take stock of achievements, explore new collaboration opportunities, and share upcoming strategic initiatives.
Strategic Developments
Since the very beginning RPM has always sought synergies to consolidate and develop a strong multiskilled connected presence within the Italian motorsport industry.
One of the main topics discussed at the Assembly concerned the new partnership agreement between RPM and ANFIA, which marks a significant step forward in promoting and representing the Italian motorsport supply chain.
The agreement stems from a strategic objective that RPM has long pursued: to help build the identity of a distinct "Italian Motorsport Industry"—one capable of showcasing the sector’s excellence, fostering new industrial synergies, and gaining greater influence in dialogues with national and international institutions.
This initiative draws inspiration from the British experience, where, as early as the 1990s, an in-depth study of the sector helped define the identity and economic weight of the UK’s motorsport industry. RPM has frequently looked to this model, benefiting from exchanges with organizations such as the Motorsport Industry Association (MIA) and experts like Tim Angus.
The collaboration with ANFIA is rooted in the recognition that achieving these goals requires a unified approach—combining complementary expertise and representative capabilities. On one hand, ANFIA brings its institutional framework and well-established relationships within the industrial and political spheres. On the other, RPM contributes its direct knowledge of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the motorsport sector, operational flexibility, a network of highly specialized skills, and an evolving body of know-how regarding methodologies for analyzing the motorsport industry—developed in part through the work of Dr. Tim Angus, a sector researcher who has been involved with the RPM project since 2018 (and who also contributed to the foundational research project in the UK back in the 1990s).
The agreement will strengthen the voice of the Italian sector, fostering new opportunities for industrial development, internationalization, and technology transfer to fields such as aerospace and defense.
The first significant outcome of this collaboration is RPM’s participation in the study on the Italian motorsport industrial supply chain, which was officially presented during the Motorsport Forum 2026, held on October 14 at Assolombarda in Milan.
Developed with the involvement of The European House – Ambrosetti, the study aims to create an in-depth map of the sector nationwide, moving beyond a perspective limited solely to the "Motor Valley" in the Emilia-Romagna region.
The objective is to provide a comprehensive overview of the scale and characteristics of the entire Italian supply chain—from large enterprises to SMEs—by analyzing their expertise, specializations, innovation capabilities, and competitive advantages.
Particular attention will also be given to technology transfer to other industrial sectors, the contribution of motorsport to employment and economic development, and the identification of potential support and investment mechanisms.
RPM will participate to the Scientific Commette represented by Riccardo Paterni. The first meeting is scheduled for October 27, the second one on December 1st at the ANFIA headquarters.
The agreement with ANFIA encompasses further opportunities for practical collaboration aimed at the medium and long term, marking a significant evolution in RPM’s trajectory: transitioning from a network focused on operational cooperation between companies into an entity capable of actively contributing to lobbying efforts and the strategic positioning of the Italian motorsport industry. In doing so, it helps strengthen ANFIA’s message—all while maintaining its own distinct identity and remaining closely attuned to the concrete needs of the companies involved.
A New Agreement with the University of Pavia
Among the strategic developments, a framework agreement has been announced between RPM and the University of Pavia. This partnership stems from an established relationship with Aviorace and a collaboration with Professor Carlo Rottenbacher, who heads the Master’s program in Racing Engineering.
The Master’s program offers highly specialized training for track engineers, incorporating practical sessions at the Vairano racetrack and collaborations with prominent Italian motorsport teams.
The agreement aims to strengthen the link between university education and the business sector, fostering new opportunities for collaboration, applied research, and the development of services tailored to companies within the network.
This relationship is further bolstered by MindUp’s ongoing work with Professor Rottenbacher and Cristiano Giardina—a co-founder of the aforementioned Master’s program and an entrepreneur at Skydrive (specializing in simulators, based in Monza). The initiative also involves the use of a high-end simulator located at the University of Pavia’s research laboratories.
